The Agriculture Educators Standing Ovation award is designed to recognize the hard work and dedication that agriculture educators and instructors across our state put in daily to make a difference in future generations.
Mr. Jerry Hamilton is the May Standing Ovation Awardee. Mr. Hamilton has been the Vocational Agriculture Educator at Indianola Public Schools for 23 years. Jerry was nominated by Principal, Anna Peery, who says Mr. Hamilton has lived out the value of agriculture in his own life as he is known for being a cattle farmer and can be seen in the hay field during the summer. In addition to his own endeavors, he and several students help many community members on their ranches.
“The impact of Mr. Hamilton’s teaching career can be seen at his annual Steak Dinner and Pie Auction event,” said Anna. “Students from previous years pack the cafeteria to support a program that supported them. The dinner is free, and the pie auction is entertaining and profitable. People tell stories of the work they did with Mr. Hamilton, how that work propelled them into current endeavors and how they know Mr. Hamilton is impacting current students.”
